Job Description

Waste Connections has an immediate opening for a highly motivated, results-oriented Administrative Assistant in the Legal Department in The Woodlands, TX. This professional self-starter will provide administrative and clerical support to the General Counsel and other attorneys in the Legal Department, working as a key member of the legal support staff.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Generate, edit and distribute internal and external attorney correspondence and work product.

  • Create and maintain litigation holds, and assist with transition to new product/platform.

  • Assist attorneys with administration of incoming contract review/drafting requests, service of process for certain matters, and responses to subpoenas.

  • Assist attorneys with drafting of certain form agreements and updating W-9s.

  • Organize, file and maintain legal documents and correspondence.

  • Help prepare and distribute materials for Board of Directors and Committee meetings.

  • Prepare expense reports and assist with making travel arrangements, maintaining expense voucher files, and reconciling P-Card purchases for the Legal Department.

  • Assist with other general administrative tasks, including word processing, answering phones, copying, scanning, filing, preparing binders, etc.

  • Back up receptionist desk when needed.


  • Three-plus years of administrative experience, preferably supporting attorneys within a corporate legal department or law firm environment.

  • Proven experience and proficiency in MS Office programs, including Word , Outlook , and Excel ; proficiency in PowerPoint a plus.

  • Experience with document management and comparison programs such as Worldox and Workshare , and with online invoice and matter management systems such as Legal Tracker (formerly Serengeti Tracker) , preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage projects and calendar matters for follow-up.

  • Professionalism, discretion, ability to work with others and good judgment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, solve problems and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
