BP's BPX Energy business (formerly known as the Lower 48) operates across a vast US geography, from Texas north through the Rocky Mountains. These assets currently produce 190,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, of which about 45 percent are liquid hydrocarbons. The deal represents BP’s largest purchase since buying ARCO in 1999. It is a transformational acquisition for our BPX Energy business which gives the BPX Energy team access to some of the best acreage in some of the best basins in the onshore U.S.

In the role, individuals work with oilfield operations to optimize work processes, including the following:

Job advert:

  • Performing predictive analytics to better estimate when field equipment is about to go down and needs to be actioned.

  • Performing pattern and anomaly detection analysis to correctly assess specific issues in the field that require intervention.

  • Optimizing work flows so that the actions performed in the field will create the most overall value to the business.

Candidates must be willing to travel to the field approximately 25 percent of the time to meet with key stakeholders regarding the products that they develop.

Minimum technical skills:

  • R and/or Python experience.

  • SQL experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science.

  • Ability to write high-quality, efficient, testable code.

Preferred technical skills:

  • Statistics, computational mathematical modelling, and/or machine learning experience.

  • Data visualization experience using PowerBI, Spotfire, or Tableau.

Preferred soft skills:

  • Effective Communicator: Ability to communicate concisely and accurately across an entire organization, ranging from upper management to field personnel. Can communicate purpose and usage of difficult mathematical concepts and algorithms for a wide audience so that they can understand.

  • Growth mindset: Proven ability to quickly learn new concepts, processes, software, engineering and mathematical ideas.

  • Empathetic and customer-focused when designing products: Effective listener who builds products that solves customers’ problems, generates business value, and enhances user experience.
