Role synopsis:

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual with a growth mindset who enjoys a dynamic work environment. You will be responsible to effectively build technology and scale data science solutions in a real world environment to successfully develop and deploy business initiatives. You will work with oilfield operations to optimize work processes.

This position is assigned to BPX’s newly acquired Eagle Ford asset. The Eagle Ford asset is the focus of significant development and optimization efforts in 2019 and 2020. Through small and dynamic team efforts – BPX Operations’ objective is to significantly increase Free Cash Flow through optimized production and introducing operational efficiency.

This position represents a unique opportunity to work within operations and create immediate and impactful value. Our decision process is driven by increasing safety, increasing production, or reducing cost.

BPX Operations consists of three groups within a business: Execute – accountable for day to day operations, Improve – accountable for process and procedural management, and Change – accountable for delivering value and insight through the use of data, analytics, and technology. This position is a member of the Change team under the operations umbrella within the Eagle Ford asset. Eagle Ford’s change team is based out of Denver, CO.

Key accountabilities:

  • Utilize best software practices, including testing, logging, and version control to implement software that adds value to business and aligns with IT stakeholders.

  • Develop and train on software development standards for Eagle Ford Change Team

  • Work within the business develop and assist Optimization Engineers in the development of Proof of Concept and Pilot level projects

  • Represent Eagle Ford on multidisciplinary teams focused on Enterprise Level Projects. Ready and willing to work on Agile teams as projects are scaled across BPX.

  • Effectively manage and track time against deliverables. Pragmatically and realistically track progress that demonstrates continuous delivery over excessive commitment.

  • Assist in the development of value cases and evaluation metrics for the development and deployment of new tools

  • Monitor and analyze KPI data to identify performance improvement opportunities

  • Perform pattern and anomaly detection analysis to correctly assess specific issues in the field that require intervention.

  • Optimize work flows so that the actions performed in the field will build the most overall value to the business.

Find, research, and implement new technologies that could drive 10x improvements into the business

Essential Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science

Desirable criteria and qualifications:

  • Proven track record in statistics, computational mathematical modelling, and/or machine learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to use data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Spotfire, or Tableau.

  • Effective Communicator: Able to present complex problems to a wide range of audiences in a concise and accurate manner across an entire organization, ranging from upper management to field personnel. Able to communicate purpose and usage of difficult mathematical concepts and algorithms for a wide audience so that they can understand.

  • Growth mindset: Proven ability to quickly learn new concepts, processes, software, engineering and mathematical ideas.

  • Empathetic and customer-focused when crafting products: Effective listener who builds products that solves customers’ problems, generates business value, and improves user experience.

  • Resilient: Ability to take care of open-ended data-related problems, and to gain valuable insights from data sets that may be initially unwieldy. Possess grit to effectively clean data sets to perform analysis and predictive analytics work.

  • Creative and Courageous: Ability to look at an industry that is embedded in its methods and recommend disruptive change.

Essential experience and job requirements:

  • Capable in data analytic tools that include R, Python, SQL, SSIS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science

  • Ability to write high-quality, efficient, testable code

  • Ability to design effective tests

Preferred technical skills:

  • Ability to code testing scenarios, build automated test cases, and debug existing unit tests and code

  • Experience with Version Control

  • Experience with cloud architecture in Azure and AWS

  • Knowledgeable in deployment, logging, monitoring and reporting

  • Experience in Early Life Support and transition to long term support

  • Understanding of software design patterns and principles

  • Ability to create proper and readable documentation of code and projects
